LEGENDARY INTERVIEW
Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Desert Sun Brand - Anna Lakatos ("DSB-AL") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?
DSB-AL : I studied fashion management at Mod’Art in Paris and London College of Fashion, and followed short courses at Central Saint Martins.
DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?
DSB-AL : As far as I can remember I have always wanted to work in fashion. I was always drawing outfits as a kid. I think I have a creative mind, so I’ll always think of something creative to do, even when I’m not working on my fashion designs.
DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?
DSB-AL : I never really chose to become a fashion designer. I studied fashion management and then music industry management. After graduating, I started creating custom pieces for my friends and family and it gradually became Desert Sun Brand.
DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?
DSB-AL : I design womenswear, and sometime menswear, but I’d definitely like to design more for men and maybe accessories such as shoes too.
DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?
DSB-AL : In fashion everything moves so quickly. Trends come and go. We believe in slow fashion, and we sell designs from previous collections too. So when people are still buying and wearing pieces from a past collection, it always makes me happy. I think a good design in fashion is when it is still relevant years later.
DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?
DSB-AL : More customs pieces for artists and musicians. I love to design unique pieces that reflect one’s personality.
DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?
DSB-AL : I studied marketing and branding so I think that’s what I would do.

INSPIRED BY HER LOVE OF THE 1970S, HER TRAVELS, CULTURAL DISCOVERIES AND HER STUDIES OF AUTHENTICITY WITHIN COUNTRY MUSIC, DESERT SUN’S COLLECTIONS COMBINE ELEMENTS OF NOSTALGIA WITH A MODERN TWIST, RESULTING IN EASY TO WEAR PIECES. DESERT SUN’S PRODUCTS SHARE A 1970’S VIBE, MIXING IMAGERIES INSPIRED BY ROAD TRIPS THROUGH AMERICA, FOLK MUSIC, SOUTHERN GOTHIC BOOKS AND MOVIES SUCH AS BADLANDS, DAZED & CONFUSED AND ZABRISKIE POINT. EACH COLLECTION IS DIFFERENT AND STANDS OUT WITH A SPECIFIC THEME (SUCH AS CORN FIELD, DREAMER, CANYON, JOSHUA TREE...).
