Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Elena Whitermore ("EW") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

EW : I have an education as a fashion designer at first, and later it was a packaging design education in Stockholm, Sweden. Recently I became CAD Engineer with is also a bit related with design.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

EW : Motivation for design in general is communication, I assume. You want to tell others _ " this is how i see it" or " this might be better if it looks so and so". Designer wants to express the way the them see things.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

EW : I design bags and I wish to design more bags!

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

EW : A good design communicates and you get the message.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

EW : As i said, I design bags, and I enjoy to do it for people.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

EW : An active visualizing of the design and production makes 90% work done.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

EW : According The Drop bag, I believe that its minimalistic solution gives it a great touch.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

EW : As design is about visuals , the design has to be presented so other people can understand it. But artistic approach is good as well.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

EW : An international design studio)

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

EW : I work on different solutions for the round bag.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

EW : I want to see the design industri more environmentally friendly.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

EW : It is going to be mostly digital.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

EW : Technology helps a lot in designing process.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

EW : Adobe CC, SolidWorks, Rhino.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

EW : " Can I make a better version if it?"

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

EW : Absolutely.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

EW : Färg & Blanche are a great par of designers, helped me a lot to boost my skills.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

EW : Since Fiction.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

EW : yes, My mother always said that I have a talent to create "those small beautiful things".
