LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Arman Nur ("AN") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AN : My education has started in my early years when was attending the children’s art center after that step after step I was going further till now, because I think that you learn the whole life and during your design processes, it never ends.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AN : I couldn’t imagine to be something else then a designer, I wanted to take part on creating and underlining the beauty on this world.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AN : No one forced me, I would say that I forced to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AN : I design environment and all that I design at the moment is what I wish to design.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AN : Young designers should be honest with them and find their inspiration in their souls. They should never try to find their art in another art or artist.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AN : A great designer is someone with genius ideas and his one style, evolved through the years, someone who investigates new technics and possibilities. A good designer is someone who reproduces something what is already done in a new way.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AN : The individuality, profundity, and the unusual appearance turns a good design into a great design and of course the main idea so the meaning.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

AN : All the points I have noted in the last question are the value. In my opinion everyone should invest in comfort ability and beauty so in good design.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

AN : When I would have endless time and possibilities I would make the whole world more beautiful.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

AN : Create something what would teach people to love.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

AN : All my creations strive for being beautiful and to say something like their history.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

AN : They are a lot so it’s not possible for me to list because the list would be too long.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

AN : I love the works of Rene Lalique

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

AN : What I haven’t created yet.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

AN : They could research themselves and their own nature.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

AN : I would become a doctor.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

AN : I would like to define for not only design but for art. Art is peoples try to become similar to good.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

AN : My first teacher, Samvel Baghdasaryan. He helped me to get loose of my boundaries I had lined for myself and to be free.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

AN : My endless imagination helped me.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

AN : To be misunderstood and not accepted at this time period. Today’s creations are never understandable today, they are understandable in a later time period.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

AN : In the best possible way matching to the creations style and meaning.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

AN : I never talk about the next project in advance, only after it is done and presentable.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

AN : he goal is to add one more Idea into the bank of my Ideas.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

AN : People would be never able to predict my next step because the next one is more à than the last one.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

AN : When design is able to teach people being esthetic, it teaches them to be more kind also and besides of this it gives them more comfort and beauty

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

AN : As I said I won’t talk about the future.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

AN : Each work gives me satisfaction no matter small or big.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

AN : I think the evolving process goes its natural way matching to the time period so do not want to change anything.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

AN : I would love to see the design of humans’ soul for being more beautiful and tolerant.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

AN : It is very different for all of them.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AN : I begin from the mind.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

AN : I want to have my very own input into the slogan “Beauty will save the world”.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

AN : For example, I try to be independent from both of this versions by being honest and individual in my works.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

AN : Of course technology has a big role in the design world but I give the importance to paper and pencil like in the old days.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

AN : Most of the time I use very simple equipment and my hands.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

AN : All materials on the world can be used and all of them has their role.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

AN : All I want is them to join it and to love it or not, I think questions are not needed in this case.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

AN : I would like to have done that project.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

AN : It happens sometimes that I work with someone but this is really very seldom, I use to work alone.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

AN : Each person can influence with their individuality.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

AN : All good books had their influence in some of my collections.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

AN : With much work.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

AN : Leonordo da Vinci

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

AN : I feel satisfied and loved as a designer but being famous is not easy because you have a lot of attention and this gives a feeling for responsibility.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

AN : I have no favorite color but I can tell about my favorite place which is all the nature on the world, the favorite food is everything I eat when I am hungry, the season I like most is spring but I don’t have a favorite brand.

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

AN : The funniest thing is about my last and artistic name I guess because in different languages it has a very different meaning for example in our language it is a fruit in the Arabic language it means light, in German it means only so in every country I have exhibitions it is always the same question why Nur ??

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

AN : A good thought, Idea and an inspiration makes my whole day gorgeous.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

AN : It was obvious that I would become a designer but a great designer I haven’t become yet.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

AN : I am sure I won’t be anymore and what will be in general could be anything, I have no Idea about that one.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

AN : When there are those kinds, then they surly know everything they have to.
