Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Peng Su ("PS") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

PS : I graduated from Xi'an University.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

PS : The reason you like design is that it solves the problems of people's lives, like a doctor treating a patient, and it's a job that you love.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

PS : It started out as a designer because of life, but later discovered that only love, can be a real designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

PS : Recently I would like to design, to help more people design for the real world design, the power of design

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

PS : Young designers have a lot of ideas. Learn from each other.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

PS : The name of the designer gives them a mission.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

PS : A problem-solving design is a good design and a design with beauty is a better design.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

PS : Given life, design to help people solve problems, is a good embodiment of value

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

PS : Recently, I wanted to try design in underdeveloped places, and a lot of people say that only developed places have designs, so I want to challenge the underdeveloped places, isn't there design, too?

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

PS : Design for the people around you, such as parents, family members, they should be the most in need of your design

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

PS : Design for the real world

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

PS : Kan Tai-keung

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

PS : Kan tai-keung's Chinese style poster. I love the tone and idea of the design. I am fascinated by the idea and tone of the design

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

PS : The greatest design is to solve problems in life, such as: a packaging design solves product transportation, environmental protection problems, packaging production price, and so on.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

PS : Constant learning design comes from life, art comes from desire

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

PS : Teacher, because I like to share,

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

PS : Designers should have a sense of social and ecological responsibility. Against unsafe, fancy, or useless designs, for example.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

PS : Many customers think that only well-known designers can have good designs. When they are not famous, they are often disapproved of.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

PS : Sharing your work is the best way to show it.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

PS : Solve the problem

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

PS : Learn from each other

DL: How does design help create a better society?

PS : The design should serve not only the healthy, but also the disabled. Considering the problem of Earth Resources, the Design should serve the Earth Resources where we live

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

PS : Original creative design

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

PS : There is no most satisfactory work, only to constantly improve their own design

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

PS : Respect design

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

PS : Cross boundary design

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

PS : Design Benson begins, for example, by designing Starbucks packaging. If you haven't had Starbucks drinks, you can't design the best

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

PS : Design for the real world

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

PS : Every era has a different design genre and art that can study trends, but don't think of it as your own. Everyone has a different design approach.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

PS : Perfect design

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

PS : Enrich the design itself

PS : Constructive suggestions

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

PS : I'd like to meet this designer.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

PS : There are many noble people on the road of design, for example: customer, teacher, friend, but the biggest noble person is oneself, only if oneself keep learning, will there be something to be gained

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

PS : Design for the real world

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

PS : Learning is the quickest way to develop yourself

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

PS : Why the Ancient Chinese Emperor Song Huizong did not want Art

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

PS : All the glory goes with your growth and your ability not to become famous overnight.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

PS : BLUE xian Sport

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

PS : Design is accepted by more people and brings them happiness, which is the best part of the day.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

PS : Not quite a scientist as a child, studying the mysteries of the airplane universe.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

PS : The future is always the future, the person who needs the future answers to live in the present
