Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Miguel Ángel Sánchez Martín ("M�SM") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

M�SM : I was born among the chip, my father had a carpenter and little by little the company was growing in the carpentry and furniture sector, my interest in innovating in the sector led me to study interior design and specialize in product design and furniture.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

M�SM : I choose. I think it is a profession that is chosen and loved. If not, it does not work.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

M�SM : Product and furniture.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

M�SM : What is original and innovative, and the ability to revolutionize and influence society. Of course, whenever it is functional and timeless, it is not a fad, and that its materials and finishes ensure a long life.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

M�SM : It is not just about aesthetics, it is about making something work, that it is useful and that it is a positive change for the people who use it and enjoy it. In the end, a good design will make your life better, smaller or larger scale.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

M�SM : Patience and constancy.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

M�SM : It is a way of life, ends impregnated in everything that surrounds you.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

M�SM : In the way they think their ideas are best understood. We all have a style and a medium to convey with which we feel more comfortable and free, and that make our work shine even more.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

M�SM : It makes her more beautiful and more comfortable. It can change a mood and convey feelings, making spaces have a character and a precise moment to live them.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

M�SM : Innovation in products with acoustic properties for spaces in the contract sector.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

M�SM : It depends. No project is the same as another. Depending on its complexity, it may be a matter of weeks or months. There are even projects that are the result of years of maturation.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

M�SM : Both are valid. There have been designs that have marked or have given rise to a whole movement, marking the trends of an entire era. And, on the contrary, there have been trends derived from political, social, and economic situations that have led to important designs in our history.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

M�SM : Today, quite important. But more at the time of materializing ideas in order to present them to customers. In the creative process I do not consider technology as a totally necessary element.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

M�SM : Mac computer, autocad, Rhino.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

M�SM : Is essential. These three criteria / elements will mark practically the whole essence of a design.
