Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Francesca Pucciarini ("FP") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
FP : I attended the "Bernardino di Betto" art institute of Perugia, then I studied industrial design at the University of Roma Sapienza. I am currently attending the master's degree in Product Design for Innovation at the Politecnico di Milano.
FP : I love industrial design in general, but I have also a great passion for furniture design. In the future I would also like to study more in-depth graphic design.
FP : First of all I analyze the brief to visualize possible preliminary ideas. Then, it is important to do a specific research on what has been already done and how. After this analysis, I wonder how innovation can be done, through the formal study, the choice of the material or of the production process, or through the attribution of a new symbolic meaning.
FP : Both statements are true. I think it is a circular mechanism that influences every creative sector.
FP : I use the typical software for three-dimensional modeling, graphics and post-production. But I think it is important to design starting from freehand drawing and the use of handmade prototype.
FP : I like working with other people. More minds involved in the same project are able to develop more concrete ideas. Also, you can learn a lot from the comparison with other designers. My ideal design partner is a person with a different background than mine and who can make me see things from a new point of view.
FP : I don't have a color that I prefer most. One of my favorite place is Villa Torlonia in Rome because it is a really strange park where the architectures are in contrast between them and the Ville hides lots of secrets in its history. I love this place also because I used to live very close to it. I love cooking and all the Italian food tradition, so it is impossible for me decide which recipe I prefer. My favorite season is autumn I think because I was born in October. I keep up-to-date on many brands, the most affirmed, but I try to be alert also to the fresh and young news or to the smaller and more particular realities. Recently, I'm on a collaboration with Internoitaliano, based in Milan.
