Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Venkatesh Kalidoss ("VK") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

VK : I Am Currently Pursuing Architecture. We Had a Product Design Subject in 2nd Year. Then I Worked on a Furniture Manufacture Company. So Then I Got Interest.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

VK : Design Just Make You to Think Something New Which Is Not There Anywhere in World. And That Is What That Makes Me Feel Alive.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

VK : I just happened.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

VK : Design That Is More Dynamic and That Transforms.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

VK : I Am Still Young. I Never Thought That Way.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

VK : Multiple Ideas Over a Single Concept Is What That Makes a Great Designer.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

VK : Multiple Ideas in It (Program,function,ease of Access, and the Feel Etc).

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

VK : Its Saves Material and Space

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

VK : Vernacular and Sustainable Peaceful House With Farming Incorporated in It.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

VK : 100 Percent Sustainable House.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

VK : Hard Work.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

VK : I Am My Own Inspiration.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

VK : I Never Look at the People. I Look at Their Designs.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

VK : When I Design Something With Happiness and Hard Work. I Feel Great.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

VK : Think Positive in All Aspects.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

VK : Astronomy

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

VK : Design Is Something Where You Get to Do Something Different Everyday. Its a Kind of Art to Express Out Emotion Sometimes

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

VK : Parents and a Friend.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

VK : Imagination.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

VK : No One Gives Value to Design as They See Me as an Young Guy. People Judged Me Depending on My Age. But I Have Proved Them Now by Winning This Award.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

VK : Visual and Verbal Is Must. Because Each Look at the Design in a Different Way.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

VK : Win an Another Award and Then Decide Where to Go Up With the Career.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

VK : Create My Own Style.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

VK : Good Design and Efficient One.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

VK : It Save Material and Space.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

VK : My Thesis Project.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

VK : Sustainable.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

VK : Sustainable and Multipurpose Design.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

VK : Its Less Headed Towards Nature and Preserving It. I Think More Importance Has to Be Given.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

VK : Two Weeks.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

VK : Relax With Music and Sketch.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

VK : Design Is What That Keeps a Person Mind Feel Alive.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

VK : Design Set the Trend.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

VK : Simplicity and It Was Manual Fixing.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

VK : Always Use Soothing Color Like Yellow, Blue, Green.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

VK : From Where the Intent Came for You to Design This Furniture When You Are Not at All in This Field.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

VK : What Would Be the Possible Way to Make the Design Better.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

VK : I Do Not Believe in Co Design.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

VK : My College Professors

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

VK : I Never Read.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

VK : Thinking Over and Over and Sketching

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

VK : Furniture Designers in Italy.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

VK : I Really Liked It as People Really Started to Believe That I Can Design Really Great.

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

VK : People Ask Me for Free Design All the Time.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

VK : Be Happy With What You Have Done for the Day With Hard Work. That Will Give You the Energy for the Next Day.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

VK : No. But I Had a Thought of Being Great in Whatever Field I Take.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

VK : People Should Do Something to Sustain in Earth (Being Sustainable) . Otherwise There Is No Use in Just Talking About It.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

VK : Not Only Furniture ,i Do Athlete, Cycling, Carom, Parkour, Football, Sketching, Biker, Traveler. So Basically Try and Learn New Things as Much as Possible. Because That Is What That Keeps My Life Interesting and Not Boring. Explore. Its Fun.
