Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Israel Lara ("IL") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

IL : My projects are related to: products, architectural projects, architectural restoration. I think the three potentiate the development of culture and society.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

IL : Generate improvements for society.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

IL : Since I started noticing curious about the spaces we inhabit.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

IL : In fact, any issue is welcome, our designs are varied.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

IL : Do not let anyone slow down your ideas.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

IL : The commitment to the three pillars: the designer, client and project.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

IL : Commitment to user.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

IL : Improving the quality of life of the user in some aspect.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

IL : Spaces for new generations or redemption of historical heritage.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

IL : A design that promotes activities for people of all ages in the same space.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

IL : Ask for opinions.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

IL : Eduardo Torroja, Ten architects, architects Rodkin, Elon Musk, BIG.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

IL : Playful designs, I think it's more interesting project for a type of audience is bored every 5 minutes.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

IL : Sport Resort a sports complex for cyclists, because out of the ordinary.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

IL : Learn from others mistakes and successes.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

IL : Inventor.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

IL : Identify a problem and propose a solution to place it on paper.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

IL : My family.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

IL : Perhaps my stubbornness to change things and be as meticulous.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

IL : Teachers trying to break one's dreams.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

IL : Just like that as they came up for the first time, with the enthusiasm of approaching a project.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

IL : Designs committed to rescue the mining heritage.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

IL : Customer satisfaction.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

IL : Do not stop renewal.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

IL : Very much, this question is so extensive.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

IL : I continue my academic preparation.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

IL : A cathedral for a contest, it changes the context of a small town.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

IL : Do not depend so much technology today is difficult to see an analyzed design to one that casts a computer.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

IL : Hermetic combination of disciplines (required).

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

IL : It depends on each project.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

IL : General to the particular.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

IL : If it was easy something can be improved.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

IL : Crucial any tool.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

IL : Autocad, Archicad.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

IL : Fundamental I think sometimes make design identity.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

IL : How I would do?

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

IL : Industrial Designer

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

IL : Usually the client of each project

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

IL : Trial and Error

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

IL : Designers with different ideas and tastes.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

IL : Red, beach, meat, summer.

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

IL : Forget to save progress in the last 6 hours. I bet you could create a club.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

IL : Sometimes an activity agitad to and in other some quiet activity.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

IL : I have still much to do.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

IL : I have the fear that miss the analyzed design and everything goes as serial products.
