LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Irena kilibarda ("IK") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

IK : I have studied architecture in Belgrade Faculty of Architecture and while studying started working on projects. I have applyed at the Faculty of Architecture, but always wanted to work in interior design projects, which became my main occupancy during the past 10 years.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

IK : Designer.. well, if someone mentioned to me earlier that I will become, next to my interior designing job, a furniture designer, exhibit throughout the world and in the end have my own production, I wouldn't believe that person. New technologies, materials used in design motivate me. The force that pulls you to do more and go further, create something new.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

IK : I chose to become a designer, since I was always a good drawer and a creative person.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

IK : I designed throughout my interior design projects many different things, concerning housing, shop design or hotel design. Through these interior projects I got the ideas of products that I started producing and selling - tables, luminaires, housing elements, kitchens.. I will design more of furniture and equipment in the next years to come.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

IK : I find that I am just at the beggining of a designer career process. Young designers have to love what they do, inform themselves of what exhists already in design and follow the work of older designers. They should learn a lot throughout their lives to find the right formula for becoming design legends.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

IK : Good design has to be at the same time functional, useful, sustainable, long lasting as well as good looking.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

IK : Patience and love towards what I do
