LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Pablo Saracho ("PS") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

PS : I began designing before I even knew the word itself. I used to design my own toys. I guess my father beign an engineer was a big influence. Whe would spend a lot of time creating things that moved. I became an advertiser and worked as such for many years before founding wodibow.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

PS : Because I love creating things from scratch. I love analysing the things that we use or sorround us and rethink how they could be better.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

PS : It was my choice and after all these years I still enjoy it a lot.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

PS : I design almos anything. Toys is my main activity as a designer right now, but I also design furniture, kitchen utensils, whatever I feel like.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

PS : Work very hardand never stop looking, never accomodate..

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

PS : I wish I knew, but I would guess that it is part you being a good designer and people considering you a great designer.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

PS : Putting together nice looking designs and usefulness in a very open meaning.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

PS : I think that our mision is to make life more beautiful and easy, both together. If you have akitchen appliance, for example, you want it toworkperfectly but if on top it is also beautiful your life is better.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

PS : More toys and Iwould love to keep designing for my own company: wodibow.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

PS : I am right now working in my dream project: The woonkis. It is a character with a lot of different scenarios that will be the mos playable toy in wodibow but always within the philosophy of the company: ecological, didactic, and tons of imagination.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

PS : I am still looking for it.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

PS : A lot of different people from different counries. There is a lot of good design in the world.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

PS : Curiosity and keep the children ability to surprise ourselves.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

PS : Development of a concept into a pattern. The design should be a plan to make the item come true in a future.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

PS : Lots of hours of work, no fear, no tabus.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

PS : There is not a lot of work for designers. We all love design but not everybody pays for it.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

PS : I think that prototypes are a good way of presenting products.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

PS : The woonkis I already introduced before, and we have an endeless list of different ideas to be develop. We only need the time.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

PS : Make the world more beautiful.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

PS : Improving, seeing my products in different stores around the world, awards...

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

PS : Not at all. Life is made of little decisions you take every single minute and that is what makes you what you are today, so it is almost impossible to know as a child what will you be as an adult.
