LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Niloofar Niksar ("NN") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

NN : I am a Tehran base architect who studied architecture in tehran I have founded “StudioDavazdah” (Architectural Design, research, and construction firm) in 2009 and done dozens of residential and industrial projects in Iran and her firm could get awards for some of them. I have some publications such as: for architecture of discernment in Tehran,” EchoGéo Magazine, September. 2018 / “Housewives on the Margins of Houses,” Tazarv Magazine, no. 2, autumn. 2016/ “Limited Openness, Contemporary Art in Tehran,” Metropolis M Magazine, no. 1, February. 2007

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

NN : these days we must be in near contact with web based medias

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

NN : We have a restoration project. It is an abandoned amphitheater

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

NN : To have a concise artistic effect on the world is my goal

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

NN : I am working on an old abandoned amphitheater that we want to restore it and give it new life

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

NN : The restoration an old building that had a cultural background

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

NN : to be moderate with the environment and produce less trash

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

NN : I hope the design field can find its true path to be efficient and impact all people and fleas from the fashion industry and get rid of the excuse of consuming the capital

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

NN : It depends on the project scale and critical issues that we confront

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

NN : with sketch on paper, glimpse on similar projects and make etude models

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

NN : real design sets the trends

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

NN : I as an architect must be alert to the new construction technology

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

NN : Autodesk and Rhino softwares

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

NN : I think that design will develop in the real world with its physical aspect so color and material characterize it.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

NN : I'm eager to see the connection between the context and my design, as well as the effect it has on the user.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

NN : I imagine that moment when the designer achieved the concept

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

NN : all my colleagues who we are working together now, are ideal partners

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

NN : all Italo Calvino novel books

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

NN : by studying and being curious about all new specific projects

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

NN : If I could meet ricardo bufil and Louis Kahn, I would asked a lot to learn about their attitudes

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

NN : I am at the first step and long long way I have in front

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

NN : My favorite place is Mountain and of course, I love autumn especially when it rains

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

NN : By listening to masterpiece music and walking in the early morning I motivate myself
